Made a start on a rudder stock. I like a lifting rudder, as our club has a stony shore, and the gantry puts the stock further back, so a cassette wouldn't be so convenient. I cut the basic shape out of foam, with a couple of cedar strips along the front and top edges to space the cheeks apart. I bogged the foam ready for carbon sheathing, and used the rest of the mix to laminate up the blank for the blade. I also cut and glued up some half round bead trims along the inner edge of the sidedecks.

The foam is terribly brittle. I chose 5mm thk, which in hindsite was too thin and fragile. I ended up bonding two thickness together which defeated the object somewhat as it added more weight in epoxy. After mistakes and lots of advice I had to paste the whole sheet with a bog mix to fill the foam pores before sheathing. Seemed to need loads of epoxy. Horrible messy job, give me wood any day ! However the finished floor did come out ok. Technique and practice would help.
