The plans include a breakdown of the major materials required, so now comes the email, phone call routine of finding best sources.
List : 6 x sheets of 4mm ply 1x sheet of 5mm ply for cockpit floor, uless a more modern alternative is chosen Various lengths and sections of PAR timber for the chines, stringers, doublers etc. I plan to use Western Red Cedar for these for it's straight grained light properties. John Elliot states how important it is for careful chioce of ply to optimise strength and lightness and achieve the target 50kg hull weight. I certainly don't want to compromise on materials so after much research am settling on 4mm Robbins Elite, an Okoume/Gaboon Marine ply. The remaining question is do I dig really deep and go for their Sapele veneered version for the visible clearcoated decks ?? £££ Darn it it's snowing - how am I going to build a shed in this ?
